Throughout the semester I believe that my writing has improved thanks to new techniques I have picked up and the improvement of the actual writing process. The things that ultimately helped me were the student conferences and the addition of the second draft. I found it also helpful that all of out work was submitted online and was easily accessible. With the composition of my intro letter I started simple and only focused on basics such as spelling and grammar. My techniques were not sophisticated but simple and to the point as this letter was intended to be composed. For the rhetorical analysis I had trouble picking an essay to analyze but I . really liked the writing techniques of Strayed. I enjoyed writing this essay because the text was rich and easy to collect details from. However I have trouble with incorporating the rhetorical devices and find this task to be tedious. I very much enjoyed writing my personal narrative because I had done similar assignments in the past and had a lot of background knowledge on how to compose it. In the end i realized I need to be more detailed and use more sensory language instead of telling the story outright, because that is what makes storytelling entertaining. To keep the reader engaged it is important to add these details. The podcast was also very fun . to make but gave me a little stress because of the amount of time it had to be. Composing the outline was simple but I am the type of person who would rather read off of a script then come up with things organically. This helped me to improve my speaking skills but I would still like to be more comfortable with speaking. I felt that my writing performance in this class was not to my usual abilities. I would like to have been able to dedicate more time and energy to this class, however I found that chemistry took up most of my time. I hope to improve my writing still and be able to write thoroughly and not add too much detail. I also need to improve my evidence gathering skills to have a strong point for my analysis. The addition of a second draft helped my writing skills because I could comb through each word twice and decide what words to use where. The blog posts were helpful to keep my writing refreshed weekly and put new thoughts into my head. The peer reviews and conferences were the most helpful for me because often times I miss my own mistakes and others will pick up on them. Overall I learned valuable skills from this class that I can carry on with me for the rest of my english career.
