Writing is a form of expression used to communicate thoughts and ideas to others. To express thoughts properly you should start with a good mental state of mind. In high school I took AP Lang which helped me tremendously improve my writing process. In high school I was also a full time athlete and I put a lot of time and energy into it. As I was looking into options for college the opportunity to play sports in college arose, I quickly realized that as a nursing major I would need to fully dedicate all of my time to my classes. Since I am a nursing major I feel that chemistry will be my most challenging class of the semester. Although I took this class I feel as though my writing is still not as strong as I would like it to be. This semester I would like to focus on being able to clear my thoughts and focus on the task more easily. My writing could improve immensely by citing better sources and having a more in-depth analysis. Some goals I’d like to set include being able to time manage, using my resources properly and improving my analysis writing techniques. To reach these goals I plan to keep track of all of my assignments due through the use of a planner, calendar and an app. These resources will help me resist procrastination and be able to complete assignments in a timely manner. To use citations correctly I plan on using a bibliography website builder and to further educate myself. To improve my analysis writing techniques practice is key, and to utilize my resources. I would like to set these goals because my writing could always use improvement and I hope that these three goals will lead to a better experience for the reader and a better understanding of my thoughts and ideas. By the end of the semester I would like to complete assignments at least a day early and learn good study habits. I would also like to learn to utilize my resources better, such as using the tutoring available and going to the library when necessary. As a nursing major my main goal is to be admitted into the upper division program here at the university of Alabama. To do so I must maintain a very high grade point average and learn time management. Although English isn’t my main focus this semester it is a building block for the rest of my educational career. I will use the components of English in my everyday career with reading and writing. I hope that this class will help me to improve my everyday skills and help me to become and better writer. These three goals of time management, improving analysis techniques and utilizing my resources, I have set I hope to carry across into my other classes to become successful. My main goal of this semester to maintain good grades and these goals will push me to do so.
Reflection
In the intro letter assignment were told to state our goals and aspirations for the semester and how we were going to accomplish them. For the introduction paragraph of this assignment I stated my previous writing experience and what I was looking to get out of this class. In the original letter I mention goals of "being able to time manage, using my resources properly and improving my analysis writing techniques" I believe that I have accomplished these goals through the semester. To reach the first goal I downloaded an app called My Homework for the mac and input all of my assignments that were due via the syllabus. I also created a student account on my computer that strictly has homework related resources and bookmarks. This has helped with distractions as well as putting away my other devices during homework time. This account has also helped me to use my resources properly and in a timely manner. I am able to access all of my webpages quickly, including blackboard and mybama, without the distractions that come with a personal account. I believe that I have also improved my analysis writing techniques over time and the writing of two essays. Each essay gave me two chances to revise my analysis and add short but to the point details needed for a conclusion. Accomplishing these goals helped me to maintain my grades and do even better than I had hoped first semester.
